Beautiful Oops!

For our first school-wide lesson, each student created a Beautiful Oops.  After reading Beautiful Oops by Barney Saltzberg, students were each given a paper with a challenge (tear, smudge, stain, mark, etc.).  Students needed to incorporate the Oops into a masterpiece. The results are impressive.

I really wanted students to understand we ALL make mistakes- in and out of the art room.  The important thing is that we learn to view our mistakes as opportunities to learn and to become creative solution finders.  I was thrilled with the enthusiasm at each grade level, and their Oops are really impressive.  I wish I had the time to post all 400.  Great job, Killam Artists!   Enjoy!

How appropriate that I should have trouble rotating this final pic!  Oops!

Welcome!

Welcome to my first attempt in the blogosphere!  I am a former fourth grade teacher venturing into the art room.  I'm thrilled to be developing my skills and sharing them with so many terrific students! I am hoping to use this site as a way to share what we are doing in the art room at the J.W. Killam school in Reading, MA.  I will do my best to link back to other sites to share where some of the inspiration for our awesome projects originated.  I would also like to thank all of the other art teachers out there in bloggerland who have shared resources, ideas, lesson plans, and so much inspiration.  I feel fortunate to be teaching in a era where it is easy to share, and there are so many amazing educators willing to do so!  Thank you!  Please check back regularly to see what we have been up to.
